Elisabeth Schimana

The musician and composer Elisabeth Schimana has been present since the 1980s as one of Austria’s pioneers of electronic music with projects that are characterized by a radical approach and an equally radical aesthetic.

Born 1958 in Innsbruck. She studied electroacoustic and experimental music at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, musicology and ethnology at the University of Vienna and computer music composition at the IEM, Graz. Stays abroad in York, Keele, London, Moscow, Amsterdam and Oslo, among other places. Since 1983 she has worked as a composer, performer, radio artist and curator. She has been working for many years with space / body / electronics. Ongoing cooperation with ORF Kunstradio and research work in the field of women’s art and technology. In 2005 she founded IMA Institute for Media Archaeology in Hainburg/a.d.Donau.
